    This may sound like an unconventional (to put it mildly) way of marketing your side hustle, but as someone who has taken several hundred Uber riders (closing in on a goal of a thousand), I can tell you this is a marketing gold mine.

    At least one or two riders for every five you pick up, will ask you how your day is going. When they do, it’s the perfect opportunity to say it’s busy, slow, or whatever… and add that you only drive part-time and that you mostly work from home.

    This is intriguing to most people, and they’ll ask what else you do.

    Since I do work from home and have various side hustles, I often get asked for my business card or a way for them (the rider) to get in touch with me (or for someone they know to get in touch with me).

    So, if you have any part-time business or side hustle on the go, rideshare can be an effective marketing channel while getting paid. Of course, you’ll have to balance your time.

    Another way to leverage rideshare and get customers is to offer discounts and packages tailored specifically for rideshare drivers in exchange for the odd recommendation.

    For example, I’ve had many riders comment on my car’s cleanliness, the fact that it smells good, and so on. If I hadn’t detailed it myself (which I don’t particularly enjoy, to be fair), I could easily mention that I use a local detailer that does a great job for a great price.

  • Collaborate with Local Businesses
    Partner with car dealerships, repair shops, or car accessory stores for mutual referrals.
  • Influencer and Content Creator Partnerships
    If there’s one thing content creators are always looking for, it’s content creation ideas. This is an opportunity to help them. Consider collaborating with local influencers or automotive bloggers in mutually beneficial ways.

While building your audience and customer base locally and online is critical to your side hustle success, branding is also important. For all of your outreach and marketing efforts, you need to give people the ability to remember you.

Understand the Hero’s Journey

  • Customer's Journey – Visualize your customer's journey from having a car that needs care to enjoying a beautifully detailed vehicle.

    Why are they getting their car detailed? Detailing is not cheap, so what specific benefit are they after?

    It might be status among their neighbors and peers. Or maybe they are selling or trading it their vehicle and a proper detail will increase the percieved value by hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars.

    Whatever transformation they are looking for, your service is the key that delivers it.

Identify Their Desires and Challenges

  • Desires – Recognize that your customers might desire more than just a clean car. They might want the pride of driving a well-maintained vehicle, the assurance of preserving their car’s value, or the satisfaction of taking good care of their possessions.

    As mentioned above, it may status and/or identity, two very powerful motivators.
  • Challenges – Understand the obstacles they face. A lack of time, uncertainty about proper car care, or previous unsatisfactory detailing experiences.

    They also probably hate doing this job themselves, and lack the necessary skill.

    For example, the idea of detailing their own vehicle is daunting and they are almost certainly short on time (aren’t we all). But you know that wen they bought their vehicle, they were proud of it and they loved driving it.
