What Is Maru Voice Canada?

Maru Voice Canada is an online market research company that gives Canadians a forum in which they can voice their opinions and potentially impact a wide variety of topics ranging from household brands to government and not-for-profit organizations.

They were not always known as Maru Voice Canada, however.

Maru Voice is a relatively new site, with a domain registration as recently as March 2018…

Prior to becoming Maru Voice Canada they were known as the Angus Reid Forum. Parent company Maru/Blue now owns and operates the community.

Unlike similar sites such as SwagBucks and Survey Junkie who also offer rewards for doing small tasks online, Maru Voice is primarily an opinion and market research site that focuses on surveys.

They also partner with an array of organizations you won’t typically find with “rewards” sites such as…

  • Government institutions
  • Media
  • Non-profit organizations

They also work with household brands, which is more common among traditional survey and get-paid-to (GPT) sites.

And like other traditional sites, they fall into a category of sites knows as MMO (make-money-online) which is heavily populated by scams.

Is Maru Voice Canada a Scam?

My first instinct when I see a new make-money-online site is that it’s a scam. Scams far outnumber legitimate sites so statistically, when you stumble onto a site like this, it’s most likely a scam.

With Maru Voice Canada though, although I was skeptical, I had a good feeling and I’ll tell you why…

Scammers rarely target a single country, especially with a region specific domain like maruvoice.ca.

.CA is a top-level domain governed by CIRA (Canadian Internet Registration Authority) and is only available to Canadian citizens, businesses, and organizations. These are not the kinds of domains scammers use.

It’s not impossible for them to register a country specific domain, but it’s also a lot of effort for very little benefit.

Scammers also target the largest audience possible. Rarely do they focus on a specific country. Again, it’s not impossible to find regionally targeted scams online, it’s just not as common.

So those were my first clues that Maru Voice Canada was legit.

Maru Voice Canada also has a significant following online, currently with 41,000 followers.

Their Twitter following is a decent size for an online survey site as well.

At the time of this review, they have over 7000 followers.

You can also find Maru Voice on Instagram.

More than domain registrations and social media followings though, there’s another reason you can be confident Maru Voice is not a scam.

As mentioned earlier, prior to becoming Maru Voice Canada you could find the community at the Angus Reid Forums. And who is Angus Reid?

According to the Angus Reid Institute,

“Dr. Angus Reid, Canada’s best-known and longest-practicing pollster. He’s spent more than four decades asking people what they think and feel about top social, governance and economic issues. From 1979 to 2001, he was founder and CEO of Angus Reid Group, which grew into the largest research firm in Canada, with revenues of $60 million. It was sold to Ipsos SA in 2000. In 2003 he joined his son Andrew’s research software start up, Vision Critical, as CEO. When he retired as executive chair in 2014 Vision Critical had 600 employees worldwide and revenues over $100 million.”

So, is Maru Voice Canada a scam?

Maru Voice Canada is not a scam. It’s a legit market research company originally founded by Dr. Angus Reid and previously known as the Angus Reid Forum. Dr. Angus Reid has been conducting market research in areas that include social, government and economic topics since 1979.

It’s also worth mentioning that Maru Voice Canada is not always accepting new members. Recruitment opens only during certain parts of the year which is more evidence they’re legit. I’ve never seen a survey type scam do that (and I’ve reviewed hundreds).

If they’re not accepting members at the time you’re reading this, you can also earn money with survey sites such as Survey Junkie and Inbox Dollars.

It should also be mentioned that survey sites don’t pay a lot of money. If you’re just getting started though, they can be a good way to earn your first few dollars online.

As you gain more experience, you may consider an online business.

You may be at home with kiddos to look after, or have health difficulties which make regular work challenging.

If that’s the case and a full-time income online is what you want, knowing how and where to get started is what you need in order to get what you want.

How Does Maru Voice Canada Work?

Now that you know Maru Voice Canada is legit, we can talk about how they work.

Surveys, like focus groups, are how many companies conduct market research, so it’s important they know a little something about who you are.

Many people won’t be comfortable with this and that’s understandable.

The purpose of these surveys is to help companies better serve or respond to a particular audience or customer, therefore it’s important that they query the same audience (or customer) they’re serving.

In other words, they need to know some personal details which include:

  • Name
  • Residence
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Family status
  • Educational level
  • Habits

These details will help Maru Voice to match you with relevant surveys.

Maru Voice Canada Requirements

Maru Voice Canada is open to Canadian residents only, and you must be at least 18 years old to join.

How to Register to Maru Voice Canada

If you go to Maru Voice Canada’s official site, you will see a Join Now button, which you can click to register.

At the time of this review, however, Maru Voice Canada is not accepting new members. As mentioned above, they open registration periodically throughout the year so if you’re unable to join now, check back with them.

If (and when) you get accepted, please note that Maru Voice Canada requires their members to take part in surveys at least once every three months. They will close your account if you’re inactive for three consecutive months… presumably to open the doors to new members who want to participate.

Available surveys are emailed but have limited slots, so responding quickly is recommended.

And because surveys are based on demographics, you won’t always qualify.

Canadians are fortunate to have many opportunities to earn income online though (this website is Canadian owned by the way) , so Maru Voice isn’t your only option. Here’s a list of work-at-home jobs in Canada.

Maru Voice Canada Points System

Of course, you will get paid when you answer surveys on Maru Voice Canada in the form of points.

Points can be redeemed for gift cards or PayPal money.

Before starting a survey, they will show the points payout for that particular survey, which according to their site range from 50 to 500 upon completion.

From what I’ve seen in some reviews though, it seems surveys are typically worth 50 to 150 points.

One point is worth one cent, so 50 to 150 points is equal to $0.50 to $1.50.

Another thing to remember here is that not all surveys carry points. In some instances, surveys may be rewarded with entries to contests.

Redemption of Points

Point redemption is unfortunately not easy. They have a $50.00 minimum threshold, which means you must accumulate 5,000 points before you can get paid.

That’s a lot of surveys.

Maru Voice Canada offers the following options for redemption:

  • PayPal transfer
  • Visa (virtual and physical cards)
  • Gift cards

According to their site, redemption options can change without prior notice.

Maru Voice Canada Disclaimer

I’m including an excerpt from their Disclaimer to give you an idea of some risks involved in joining survey sites.

As you can see in the screenshot below, they say they don’t have any control over the internet (which is of course true). Therefore, they do not guarantee your personal information is 100% safe when you answer surveys on their site.

Maru Voice Canada Review Disclaimer

This is true of all survey sites though.

They are working with third parties (their clients) and while every effort on their part may be taken to protect your information; they have no control over third parties.

And if you’re finding there are not enough surveys to keep you busy, which is ALSO the case with most survey sites, the good thing (unlike a job) is you’re not locked into or obligated to just one.

There’s no loyalty in surveys. I think they’re understanding though 😀.

Survey sites like Survey Junkie and Inbox Dollars also provide ways to make money online by answering surveys and doing small tasks.

As mentioned above, they don’t pay a lot, but they can be a good way to get started online.

If it’s a full-time income you’re looking for, an online business is what you want.

You may be at home with medical issues or children to look after for example. Or maybe you’re just tired of working for someone else.

If that’s the case and a full-time income online is what you want, knowing how and where to get started is what you need in order to get what you want.

Maru Voice Canada Reviews and Complaints

Facebook Reviews

I must admit, having learned what I now know about Maru Voice, this surprised me…

Maru Voice Canada has a 1 out of 5 rating on Facebook.

Now, that’s based on the opinion of only three reviews, but it still surprised me.

I also noticed some complaints on their Facebook page.

One is regarding the sign-up process, claiming it’s difficult to join Maru Voice Canada Panel. Fair enough…

Maru Voice Canada responded via private message.

Another member complained they didn’t at first receive their reward. However… there is a response and after some time it appears they resolved this.

SiteJabber Reviews

Unfortunately, there was only one review on SiteJabber at the time I was researching Maru Voice Canada.

Again, it’s difficult to judge something based one review. And it should be mentioned that people are far more likely to leave a review when they’re not happy.

Having said that, I promised I’d provide you with the information you needed to decide if Maru Voice Canada was for you, so that’s what I’ll do…

According to the person on SiteJabber (who gave Maru Voice Canada a 1-star rating), she had to change her email address and the company therefore deleted her points.

She also said there were several email messages between herself and the company, but the issue was never resolved (and she lost her points, which were enough for redemption).

I can image that situation didn’t sit well with her.

To be fair, we don’t know Maru Voice’s side of the story.

What I Like About Maru Voice Canada Panel

  • Maru Voice Canada is legit. I know… it’s a low bar, but just being legit in this industry sets you far above most survey and reward sites.
  • Members have opportunities to earn money/rewards online.
  • PayPal is a payout option.

What I Don’t Like

  • A minimum redemption threshold of 5,000 points (and it’s not easy to get 5,000 points, or $50, on any survey platform).
  • Getting surveys is not guaranteed. According to some reviews, available surveys can come once or twice a week. Others report getting very few email notifications for surveys.
  • At the time of this review, Maru Voice Canada is not accepting new members.

Where Do You Go From Here?

Despite the negative reviews, I think Maru Voice Canada is worth checking out. It’s a legit site that’s free to join.

Online surveys are not the best way to make money online if you’re buried in debt or struggling month to month, but I get it. A lot of other programs require up-front investments and I also know what it’s like not wanting to stray too far from your comfort zone.

I’ve been there too. I didn’t become a freelance writer overnight.

The biggest issue with Maru Voice Canada is the high payout threshold. 5000 points are a lot of surveys and if you’re not getting them often this will be a long-term commitment before you see any money.

If accumulating points over many weeks or even months doesn’t appeal to you, you may prefer sites like Survey Junkie and Inbox Dollars that have lower payout thresholds.

However, if you’re struggling financially or just looking for something more significant, surveys might not be your thing, and that’s fine. They’re great for the right person but not for everyone.

You might be a student in school or a single parent at home. You may have health issues that make regular work difficult and a full-time income is what you need.

An online business may be what you want.

With all the junk sites and schemes out there though, knowing how and where to get started is what you need in order to get what you want.
